Obituary for Billy George Anderson

Billy George Anderson, 81, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2014, while at the Heartland Regional Hospital in St. Joseph, MO. A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Platte City, MO; followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service. Interment will follow in the Platte City Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be given to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Georgie was born December 9, 1932 in Platte City to William and Alta Mabel (Wade) Anderson. He married Georgia L. Roberts on November 24, 1951 in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was a lifelong resident of Platte City, and active member of the First Baptist Church of Platte City, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. Georgie was previously employed in local grain mills, and worked for several years as warehouse manager for Sony Corp. in Kansas City, until his retirement in 1992; but he primarily considered himself a farmer. He loved farming and gardening, and was well known throughout the community for his generosity with the fruits of his labor. Georgie was a member and judge for the K.C. BBQ Society, enjoyed feeding the birds, was a “clown for Jesus” at many community locations, member of the Emery Wheels square dance club, and was Santa Claus at the Platte County Courthouse for many years. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; his brother L.B. Wade Anderson; and his sisters Mary Jean Giffee, and Delveena Hardesty. Georgie is survived by: his son Lawrence (Deana) Anderson of Gower, MO; his daughters Marlene (Rick) Cline of Platte City, and Rhoda (Paul) Kelley of Rushville, MO; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
