Rachel Elliott Atwood – Smoot, April 11, 1981 to July 22, 2014. We all believed that Heaven would wait…and that was not so! Our precious Rachel is gone to be with our Lord. Rachel was a wonderful, beautiful woman who was known for her compassion, work ethic, entrepreneurship, and nurturing of her children. After high school she attended and graduated from Park University with honors, and at her death was working on a master’s degree. She was a former owner of Toy and Book, Parkville, Mo. and was the Founder/publisher/editor of the Independent Platte newspaper. She was a member of NW Bible Church where she loved being in AWANA in her younger days. She is survived by her parents Phillip and Elizabeth Walthall; grand-Parents Howard and Lucille Kemper; husband Tom Smoot; children Grace, Gabriella, and Jackson Eric Atwood; brother Tim Walthall; father-in-law John Vanderpool; stepson Mitchell Smoot; also to hold her memory Dear sisters Amy and Stacey; dearest in-laws Chuck and Carla Atwood; sister-in-law Alison; and best friend Eric Atwood. Also including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and an abundance of friends. Graveside services only 10:30 am Wednesday July 30. Laurel Hill Cemetery, 810 Welt St. Weston, Missouri.
