Vernon Beck, 70, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Shawnee Mission Hospital, Shawnee Mission, KS. Vernon was born December 25, 1946 in St. Joseph, MO to Albert Nola and Dorothy May (Downing) Beck, but due to his birth mother’s passing during Vernon’s early childhood, he was raised by his mother to be, Lillian. Raised in Weston, MO, Vernon was a 1964 graduate of the West Platte R-II High School; and was baptized at the Weston Christian Church. He married Susan Deborah Drew on October 19, 1979 in Toms River, NJ; and they made their home in Canoga Park, CA. After moving back to the Kansas City area, Vernon worked for Interstate Brands, where he retired as lead computer operator, after 25 years of service. He was a dedicated worker who made friends with everyone, and had a knack for fixing almost anything. Vernon was an avid car enthusiast, but his true passion was helping others and staying well on top of things that needed to be done. He was preceded in death by his parents. Vernon is survived by: his wife Susan; his sons Raymond Beck and Andrew (Shannon) Beck all of K.C., MO; his grandchildren Alexandra C., Colton D., and Corinne G. Beck; his twin sister Vivian (Raymond F.) Beck Dissette of Carson City, NV; his sister F. Lynette Beck Burkhart of Paola, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday July 5, 2017 at Vaughn Funeral Home in Weston. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 6 at the funeral home. Following cremation, a private family graveside will take place at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the New Market Christian Church.
