LESTER COX
Lester Cox, 77, passed away October 11, 2016 at the North Care Hospice House in North K.C., MO. A visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, at Vaughn Funeral Home in Weston, MO. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, October 15, at the funeral home. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. The family suggests contributions be given to the V.F.W. Post #4055 of Platte City or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Lester was born June 30, 1939 in Iatan, MO to Charles H. and Neta Mae (Raney) Cox. He served his country during the Vietnam Conflict as a member of the U.S. Army. Lester married Lora Ellen Sherman on April 16, 1981 in Kimberling City, MO. He lived many years in the Weston and Platte City areas. Lester spent his working life as Chief Maintenance Engineer for the Platte County Courthouse in Platte City, retiring after over 20 years of service. He was a member of the local American Legion, and lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #4055 of Platte City. Lester was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, camping, and hunting. He also enjoyed the gambling casinos and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Lester was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife Lora Ellen; 1 brother Bobby E. Cox; an infant brother Charles E. Cox; and a grandson Devin Leeper. He is survived by: 4 sons Denny (Marla) Leeper of Liberty, MO, David (Lisa) Leeper of Platte City, David (Michelle) Buff of Illinois, and Bryan (Colette) Buff of Illinois; 4 daughters Laura (Larry) Rogge of Weston, Tammy Cates of Cameron, MO, Tina (Rick) Shaginaw of St. Joseph, MO, and Tracy Leeper of Missouri City, MO; 1 brother Bill (Pat) Cox of California; 5 sisters Doris Webb, Betty Jean Pullen, Charlene (Jack) DuBord, Nellie (Charlie) Edlin, and Geraldine (Buddy) Browning; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
