Obituary for Charles H. "Charlie" Humphrey

Charles H. “Charlie” Humphrey, 73 passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at his home in Platte City, MO. Charlie was born October 12, 1943 in East Leavenworth, MO to Walter Leslie and Mildred Susan (Heiderstadt) Humphrey. He was a graduate of the West Platte High School in Weston, MO, and spent his entire life in the Platte County area. He was of the Christian faith and spent most of his working life as a farmer and cattleman in the Farley/Platte City area. Charlie married Carole Ann Hansen on November 5, 1966 in Basehor, KS. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. In addition to farming, Charlie also worked as a toll collector for the Platte Purchase Bridge, maintenance worker for the Platte County Courthouse, and also worked at the PX at Fort Leavenworth, KS before retiring in 2012. Charlie loved spending time with his family, and was known as a “Jack of all trades”, who could fix almost anything. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Carole. Charlie is survived by: his son Mark (Sharon) Humphrey; his daughter Kristi (Monte) Riddle both of Platte City; his brother Walt “Sandy” (Joan) Humphrey of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; his sisters Dorothy Skeels of Texas, and Susan (David) Hintz of Leavenworth; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. A visitation will be held 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City; followed by an 2:00 p.m. funeral service. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. The family suggests contributions be given to the American Cancer Society.
