ANNIE C. SHAW
Annie C. Shaw, 70, of Platte City, MO passed away Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Luke’s Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth, KS. Annie was born October 26, 1946 in Vinita, OK to Alexander Arron and Dorothy Minervia (Smart) Johnson. Because of her father’s work she was raised in various areas of Oklahoma. Annie married First Lieutenant James M. Shaw on August 7, 1970 in Stillwater, OK. Being in a military family, she lived in various locations including Holland, Las Vegas, England and Georgia, and enjoyed travelling to nearby areas wherever they were stationed. In addition to being a homemaker, Annie was actively involved with needlework, which led to a part time career throughout the following years. She also enjoyed quilting, and was a member of the Platte Prairie Piecers, and the American Quilting Society. Annie enjoyed writing poetry, and was an active volunteer for the Eisenhower V.A. Hospital in Leavenworth, KS, where she spent 15 years manning the information desk, She also served as the Missouri V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary representative for the V.A. Volunteer Services Board of Directors, was a member and past president of the local V.F.W Ladies Auxiliary, Post #4055 of Platte City; and served for many years as a Red Cross volunteer. She was preceded in death by: her parents; a brother Roger Arron Johnson; and a sister Elanda Fly. Annie is survived by: her husband Major James M. Shaw USAF, ret., of the home; a sister Inez McDermett of Muskogee, OK; brother in laws Lynn Fly of Norman, OK; and Michael J. (Louise) Shaw of Lee’s Summit, MO; her nephews Roger Lee McDermett, and Nathan (Cortney) Casey of St. Peters, MO; her niece Lydia (Warren) Vandergrift of Moore, OK; and her great niece Crystal Vandergrift and her fiancé Gregory Graham. A visitation will be held 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21 at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City, MO; followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service. Interment will take place at a later date at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Memorial contributions can be given to: Wayside Waifs, or Alley Cat Allies.
