Obituary for James Franklin Smith

James Franklin Smith, 49, of Platte City, MO passed away Friday, May 5, 2017. James was born February 24, 1968 in Kansas City, MO to James Theodore and Hattie Marie (Brown) Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Platte City, graduating from Platte County High School in 1987. Even after school, he remained a fan of the Pirates, as well as the Chiefs. He grew up in the Second Baptist Church, and later joined the United Methodist Church, both of Platte City. James married Jennifer Jo Gates on July 27, 1991. He worked for over 6 years with Georgia Pacific in Kansas City, MO. James loved fishing, especially with his Arkansas family, camping, hunting, cooking, and most of all spending time with his family. James was preceded in death by: his father; his brother William Smith; and his mother-in-law Laura Wright. He is survived by: his wife, of the home; sons Taylor and Ethan Smith; sisters Heather and Charlotte Smith; father-in-law Joe (Mary) Gates; brother-in-law Brad (Andrea) Gates; sister-in-law Tanya (Shawn) Morgan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 9 from 5-7 pm at Rollins Funeral Home, Platte City. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Wednesday at the Platte City United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Platte City Cemetery.
