Obituary for Harold Dee Vest

Harold Dee Vest, 76, of Platte City, MO went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, March 18, 2013 at North Kansas City Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. A visitation will be held 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City, MO; funeral services will be 11:00am Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the First Christian Church of Platte City. Interment will follow at the Platte City Cemetery in Platte City, MO. The family suggests contributions be given to: The American Cancer Society or the First Christian Church of Platte City Memorial Fund. Harold was born August 26, 1936 in Platte County, MO to Claude and Marguerite (Leipard) Vest Stevens. He was united in marriage with his wife, Shirley Hillix Gentry, on November 16, 1974. Harold was employed by KCP&L (formally Aquila) for 36 years. Since retiring, Harold and Shirley have wintered in Port Aransas, Texas, where they loved to fish and enjoyed a very active social life with many dear friends. Harold was a talented wood carver and was proud to teach his granddaughter, Miranda Vest, the tricks of his trade. Harold was a 50-year member of IBEW Local#814. He was also a member and former deacon of the First Christian Church of Platte City. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Brenda (Vest) Porter; and his son, Randy Vest. Harold will be missed by his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Shirley; daughter, Vickie (Vest) Sproul of Granite Falls, NC, Son-in-law and daughter-in-law Rick and Tracy Vest Porter of Platte City, MO. Brother, Mickey(Terry) Vest of Payson, AZ, Sisters, Janice Searcy of Platte City, MO, and Shirley (Norman) Nixon of Alma MI, six grand children; Stacee Sproul, Rachel (Matt) Harris, Tony (Amber) Porter, Tara Porter, Miranda Vest, Drew Vest, and one great-grandchild C.J.
