Obituary for Vera Wright

Vera L. (Graves) Wright, 101 of Weston, MO passed away at her home Sunday, April 22, 2018. Vera was born March 22, 1917 to Forrest Graves and Stella Medyane (Risk) Graves on the family farm on Countryside Rd. in Weston. Vera attended school at the Platte Valley School on 45 Hwy. and West Platte High School. She worked on the family farm helping her father raise tobacco and other crops during WW II, and had a part time job at Ft. Leavenworth sewing patches on military uniforms prior to her marriage. She married William M. Wright on August 24, 1946 at the First Christian Church of Weston. She then moved to an apartment in town and ran a dry cleaners; afterwards working for Kathleen and Sticker Carter’s dry cleaning service on Main Street Weston; later working for Rawls Dry Cleaners in Leavenworth, KS. Vera moved to the Egbert Wright Farm off M Hwy in 1962 where she raised and sold turkeys at the holidays. In April 1971 she moved to Aunt Pearl and Uncle Ben Pepper’s house on Washington where she remained. She went to work for the Canteen at T.W.A. from 1973 to 1981 when a cast iron skillet fell on her head, causing partial paralysis on her right side. Afterwards, she went to Colorado with her son Ronnie to recuperate, and upon returning, she began her in-home daycare in 1983, watching 78 children over the years, until her retirement in 2003, at the age of 86. Vera was a hard worker who enjoyed gardening and yard work. She loved her family, and spending time with her children, and grandchildren. Vera was also an avid fan of the NBA, and loved the San Antonio Spurs. She was preceded in death by: her parents and 2 brothers Leland and Franklin Graves. She is survived by: her children Ed (Joyce) Wright, Ronnie Wright, and Teresa Wright; her grandchildren Jimmie and Jason Wright and Jennifer (Jerod) Rigdon, Elizabeth Wright, Rachel Gatschet, and Summer Large; her great grandchildren Abbey and Brady Wright, Kole, Bryleigh, and Thane Rigdon, Tyler Wright, John Allen, Tristan Crane, and Carter and Amelia Gatschet and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and her daycare children. A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 27, 2018 at Vaughn Funeral Home in Weston; followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service. Interment will follow at the Mount Bethel Cemetery in Weston. Memorial contributions can be given to the Mount Bethel Cemetery Association.
