Sandra R. “Sandy” Thompson, 76, of Kansas City, MO passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at St. Luke’s Northland Hospital. Sandy was born September 15, 1940 in Axtell, KS to Robert Reed and Rose Marie (Blanchette) Thorman. She was a graduate of the Park Hill High School in K.C., MO. Sandy married Robert H. Thompson on May 13, 1962 in Kansas City, MO. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family; and after Robert’s retirement, worked in the cafeteria for Park Hill Schools. Sandy was a member of the Platte Woods United Methodist Church and took an active role in her community through her memberships with Eastern Star Barry Chapter, and the American Legion Auxiliary of Smithville, MO. She loved spending time with her grandson, and watching his sporting events. Sandy also enjoyed reading, playing solitaire, and regularly attended Thursday night band nights at Worth Harley Davidson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert. Sandy is survived by: her son Robert (Mary) Thompson; her daughters Joleyne (Mack) Nelson and Cindy Thompson, all of K.C., MO; her sister Kay Johnson of Smithville, MO; her grandson Joshua Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 20, 2017; followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service at Vaughn Funeral Home in Weston, MO. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. The family suggests contributions be given to Wayside Waifs.
