Obituary for Carolyn Ann Bless Larsen

Carolyn Ann Bless Larsen died peacefully amongst family and friends on February 6, 2018 at her home in Weston.
She was born in Leavenworth, Ks., April 23, 1940 to Charles A. and Ruth Crow Bless. Carolyn was a 1958 graduate of West Platte High School, and a 1963 graduate of St. Mary’s College in Omaha, Nebr. On May 9, 1964 she was united in marriage to Roger D. Larsen, travelling extensively throughout his military career. They were the parents of seven children, all of whom survive their mother.
Carolyn was a member and lay minister of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, as well as the Altar Society. She was a Girl Scout, and later served as an assistant leader. She also was a long-term EMT with HELP, Inc. ambulance service, past secretary of the Laurel Hill Cemetery Association, a former substitute teacher at West Platte and a member of the Weston Study Club. Carolyn worked at the Platte County Clerk’s office for several years, leaving to become a Missouri State Archivist. After retirement, she became the Curator of the Weston Museum and assisted the Platte County Historical Society with saving and sorting their many stored records. Carolyn was an author of several books on Weston history.
Following her husband’s retirement, they returned to Weston and she took over from her parents as editor and publisher of The Weston Chronicle. She also served four terms on the Weston City Council.
Carolyn was a four-time cancer survivor, and over the years counseled many women struggling with the disease; traveling to hospitals, homes or even the local coffee shop to help them through their treatments.
Survivors are four sons: Patrick Larsen of Weston, Christopher (Hae-Jung) Larsen of Alexandria, VA, Andrew Larsen of Kansas City and Thomas Larsen of Dearborn; three daughters: Amy (Eric) Crump of Homewood, IL, Mary Caroline (John) Peters of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and Jessica Larsen of Weston; three brothers, Bernard (Brenda) Bless of Parkville, John Bless of Plattsburg and Michael Bless of Weston; four sisters, Ruth Mary (Larry) Clemens of Weston, Kay (Donald) Federspiel of Runaway Bay, TX, Barbara Bless of Weston and Rebecca Gladstone of Platte City; and one sister-in-law, Toni Sturgill of Oak Grove, Mo. She also leaves 16 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by one brother, C.A. Bless.
Visitation will be Friday evening, February 9, at Holy Trinity Church, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Rosary at 6:30. A Memorial Mass will be Saturday, February 10 at 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates memorials to the Weston Historical Museum.
