Obituary for D. Lucille Eskridge

D. Lucille, (Martin) Eskridge, 87, of Tonganoxie, KS passed from this life at 6:55 a.m. April 24, 2013, at the Providence Medical Center, in Kansas City, KS. A visitation will be held 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2013 at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City, MO. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Dearborn Cemetery, Dearborn, MO. The family suggests contributions be given to the American Cancer Society. Lucille was born November 9, 1925 in DeKalb, MO to Edward Winfield and Mary Zurnal Gladys (Richardson) Martin. She joined the church during a revival at Fairview Country School, located on the Beisinger Farm; and was later baptized at the DeKalb First Christian Church on December 8, 1940. Over the years, Lucille lived in the St. Joseph, DeKalb, Edgerton, Dearborn, Platte City, and Versailles, MO areas, before moving to Tonganoxie, KS. Lucille was a devoted mother and homemaker, who, after the loss of her husband and children’s father, raised her four children on her own; until marrying John Elton Eskridge. In later years, Lucille again showed her devotion by raising 3 of her grandchildren, following the death of her daughter. In addition to being a homemaker, Lucille worked as a bookkeeper for Ferrel Chevrolet in Platte City. She was an active member of the Platte County Historical Society, and served as Past President. She volunteered for many community service organizations, and along with her husband, were voted “Parents of the Year” by the North Platte High School FFA. Lucille was an avid quilter and graciously donated her work to various causes such as women’s shelters and veterans. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband John Elton Eskridge; and her daughter Jeanne Willis. Lucille is survived by: 3 sons Mike of Arlington, VA, Steve of Weatherby Lake, MO, and Ernie (Vonna) Arnold of Bonner Springs, KS; her brother Raymond Edward (Betty) Martin of Lees Summit, MO; her sister Cleta Halter of St. Joseph, MO; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
