Michael S. Hurd, 62, Of Platte City, MO passed away Friday, May 23, 2014 at his residence. A visitation will be held 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Rollins Funeral Home, in Platte City, MO; Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014, 1:00pm, at the Platte City Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be given to the Amyloidosis Foundation Inc. 7151 N. Main St. Suite 2, Clarkston, MI 48346. Michael was born February 13, 1952 in Kansas City, MO to Jerry and Mary Hurd. He has lived in Platte City, MO for the last 35 years. Previously, Michael painted houses and was a transportation officer for KCI airport. More recently, he worked as a surgical tech at KU Medical Center and was the owner and operator of the Northland Honey Farm. Michael married Loretta Anne Wade on May 11, 2014. He had a passion for the beekeeping, animals and working in his yard and was also a bird enthusiast. Michael is survived by his parents, his wife Loretta; sons Heath Hurd of North Kansas City, MO, and Reese Hurd (fiancée Casandra Collins) of Albuquerque, NM; step-son Matthew Starr of Grandview, MO; step-daughters, Dory Hall (Jason) of North Kansas City, MO, Sarah Starr (fiancé David Carr) of Kansas City, MO; brothers, Rick Hurd of Jameson, MO, Eric Hurd (Sherry) of Kearney, MO, Jim Hurd (Maureen) of Olathe, KS, Ron Hurd of Liberty, MO, and John Hurd of Gladstone, MO; and four grandchildren.
