Obituary for Mary Ann Baker

Mary Ann Baker, 86, of Smithville, MO passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the NorthCare Hospice House, North K.C., Missouri. Mary was born March 11, 1931 in Duluth, MN to Henry and Margaret (Blunt) Folmer. She was raised and graduated from high school in Minnesota, where she met her future husband Howard Milton Baker. They were married on October 6, 1956 in Walker, MN. Mary spent her entire working life as a homemaker. She was a housekeeper for the family resort in Duluth, MN; later providing child care for her neighbor’s daughter, a job she enjoyed for over a decade. Having earned the title of “House Engineer” by her family, Mary loved making her home bright and shiny inside and out. Over the years, she enjoyed many activities including: collecting Avon, line dancing, going for walks, figuring math problems, and playing cards. She also enjoyed watching television, particularly soap operas, Gunsmoke, and Hee Haw. Mary also loved to travel in the family R.V. across the U.S. and visited many destinations abroad, including: Paris, Rome, London, and Saudi Arabia. She was preceded in death by: her parents and her sister Nellie Woodford. Mary is survived by: her husband Howard of the home; her sons Steven (Jean) Baker of Flower Mound, TX, and Richard (Judy) Baker of Smithville, MO; her grandchildren Michelle (James) Calhoun of Chanute, KS, Stacy Baker of Flower Mound, TX, and Tiffany Baker of Smithville; her great grandchildren Trystin, Kaidence and Alexander Calhoun of Chanute; her sister in law Helen Kahl of Stone Lake, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. A visitation will be held 5 – 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Vaughn-Aufranc Funeral Home in Dearborn, MO. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 21 at the funeral home; followed by interment at the Dearborn Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
