Obituary for Donald Lee Hawkins

Donald Lee "Don" Hawkins, 74, of Platte City, MO, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Don was born November 11, 1945 to James and Erma Hawkins. He grew up in Kansas City, KS and graduated from Wyandotte High School. He then served his country in the US Naval Air Reserves. Donald retired with Trans World Airlines (TWA) after 35 years, he was a part-time employee with FedEx and was a co-owner of Subway in Platte City for 26 years. He loved being a husband, father and Papa and enjoyed any time spent with his family. Don also enjoyed working in his garden, wood working, fishing and playing games with his family and friends. On January 20, 1968 he married his love of his life, Patricia Ann Wolters. They moved to Platte City, Missouri and raised their two daughters, Kylie Rae Bollinger and LeAnn Kay Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Erma Hawkins along with two of his sisters Sylva Jenkins and Sarah Tharp. Don is survived by his wife of 52 years Patricia Hawkins; children Kylie Bollinger and LeAnn (Daniel) Lee; grandchildren Cody, Abigail, Taylor and Andrew; great grandson Breck; sister Shirley (Les) Callahan and brother James (Sherry) Hawkins; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held 2:00 - 5:00 pm on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the Platte County Fair Grounds in the Mack Myers Building open to all who want to honor Don. Memorial donations may be made to Always An Allstar, a non-profit organization supporting local education and sporting benefits for children.
