Obituary for Ruth Ann DeSelms (Lautzenhiser)

Ruth Ann DeSelms (Lautzenhiser), a lifelong resident of Weston, MO passed away at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Ruth Ann was born July 13, 1940 in Weston to George Lee Seldon Osborne and Rena Mae (Horseman) Osborne. She was a 1958 graduate of the West Platte R-2 High Schools, and afterwards attended Gard’s Secretarial School in St. Joseph, MO. She worked as a Civil Servant for the Social Security Administration in K.C. before continuing her career working for the U.S. Army at Fort Leavenworth, KS, where she held several positions over the years before her retirement. Ruth Ann was active in the church and attended both the Christian Assembly Church of Weston, and the First Baptist Church, where she often helped with the church meals. She was very active in her community through her involvement with: a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Weston and Platte City, MO; Eastern Star of Weston; Platte County Sheriff’s Dept.; volunteer with the Weston Ambulance District; member of Silver Hair; and member of NARFE. Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband Don Leroy Lautzenhiser. She is survived by her husband Jack C. DeSelms; daughter Patty Ann Lautzenhiser Koechner of Platte City, MO; step-daughters Cheri Warren and Marie Rodenbaugh; grandchildren Brian Joseph (Christina) Koechner of North K.C.; 2 great grandchildren Kaylie and Audrey; sister Patty Lou Richards of Highlandville, MO; nieces and nephews Terry Lee Hoskins, David Wayne Hoskins, Brenda Lou Sotelo, Rhonda Chamberlain, and David Andrew Richards; sister in laws Joann Phelps and her son Tim Cox, and Joann McBroom; step brother Benny Cline; and numerous friends and extended family. A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Graceland Cemetery in Weston. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to: The American Cancer Society -or- Eastern Star Chapter #197 of Weston.
