Obituary for Catherine Denise Scarlett

The name Catherine means "pure" according to its Greek origins. And Catherine Denise Scarlett was nothing else: Pure joy. Pure light. Pure love. Her family now feels pure grief since her beautiful and short life is over. She died in a tragic car accident on January 22, 2021.

Catherine Scarlett was born in Lufkin, TX on February 20, 1989 to her adoring parents, Denise and David Scarlett, and she grew up in Camden Point, MO. Her bouncing curls and laughing eyes drew in everyone she met, but it was her radiant personality and sense of curiosity that endeared her to all. Catherine was raised a Catholic, and graduated from North Platte High School in 2007. She later earned an Associate's Degree in General Studies from Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City, MO.

Catherine's own pure joy, light and love were found in her three children, and she was devoted to them. She was an engaged and exceptional mother to her little ones. Her own keen sense of adventure and enthusiasm for learning taught her three children lessons they could never find in a classroom. Reading, responsibility, respect, and her love of all things related to rocks and the ocean top that list. Catherine was particularly close to her Grandmother Pat Pirtle, and the two shared many of the same magical, memorable personality traits.

Left to mourn her heartbreaking loss are her three children, Emma (age 8), Benjamin (age 7), and Cora (age 5). She also leaves her parents, Denise (Pirtle) and David Scarlett, sister Tricia Martin, brothers Jacob Scarlett and David Scarlett, Jr. (Renee); Grandparents Patricia and Elbert Pirtle, Uncles Ross Pirtle (Barb) of Commack, NY, Scott Pirtle (Christine) of Weston, MO, Wilton C. Scarlett of Chapel Hill TN, Robert Scarlett (Laura) of Longview, TX, Aunts Peggy Harder (Cliff) of Longview TX, Sharon Cleary (James) of Chapel Hill TN, Diane Huffman of Kilgore, TX. Catherine's cousins are many and loved her very much, and her nieces and nephews will always remember their Auntie Catherine. A special thank you to her dear friend and the Godmother to her children, Cheyenne Martin.

Preceding Catherine in death are her paternal grandparents Patsy Joy and W.C. Scarlett, her uncle Charles Pirtle and cousin Evan Pirtle.

The family has found strength and comfort in the outpouring of love and friendship from Catherine's many friends near and far. And through this agonizing grief, they have faith that Catherine is safe in God's loving and eternal care.

A celebration of Catherine's life will be held Friday, January 29, 2021 at 10 am at Christ Chapel, 15275 HWY 92, Platte City, MO 64079. In lieu of flowers, the Pirtle and Scarlett families are establishing a Children's Trust to support Catherine's three children. Details to follow.
