Obituary for Wilma Jean Reed (McMichael)

Wilma Jean (McMichael) Reed, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the home of her son Loren and his wife Donna in Dearborn, MO. Wilma was born to Charles Wesley and Mabel Marie (Schaub) McMichael on August 12, 1926 in Harrison County, MO. They moved to Grayson, MO in 1938, where she attended school. She married Charles William Reed on July 3, 1943, then moved to Dearborn after graduating from Gower High School and Charles coming home from the service. Charlie Bill and Wilma had two children, Lona and Loren, which Wilma always said were, aside from her wedding, the two happiest days of her life. Wilma was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Dearborn for many years, but then moved her membership to the Camden Point Baptist Church. She was a counselor at the New Hope Baptist Camp in Holt, MO for over 35 years. She wrote the Dearborn News for all three of the local papers for many years. She also worked tobacco, painted, and did handiwork around town with her husband. Wilma loved to sing, especially with her son Loren playing banjo. She was a member of HABOT and the Gower Goodtimers. She went to lots of bluegrass festivals all over the US and loved to travel with all her families. Wilma was a person who loved to talk to people wherever she went and never knew a stranger. In the last year, she would tell everyone that “she could not believe that she had been in this world 94 years.” She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law James R. Fowler, Sr.; sisters Edna (John) Hill, Alta (Okel) Berry, and Rose (Garland) Arthur; brothers Wilbur (Helen) McMichael, and Ray (Paula) McMichael; brother-in-law Frank Shimp; and great-grandson Jamie Fowler. Wilma is survived by her daughter Lona Jean Reed Fowler; son Charles Loren (Donna) Reed; granddaughters Cara Jean Fowler, Angel S. (Carliss) Townsend, Crystal (Vincent) Mendez; grandsons James R. (Tammy) Fowler, Jr., Arthur N. (Tammy) Fowler, George Simmons, Jr., Robert (Kristina) Simmons, and Michael Simmons; sister Betty Shimp; brothers Don (Claudia) McMichael and Glen (Anita) McMichael; 19 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and lots of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Monday, June 21, 2021 at the Vaughn-Aufranc Funeral Home in Dearborn, MO at 11 am, with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Dearborn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Camden Point Baptist Church.
