Obituary for Joy A. Thompson (Molinar)

Joy A. Thompson, 84, passed away at her home in Camden Point, MO Monday, April 25, 2022. Joy was born April 16, 1938, in Jersey City, NJ to Edward E. and Edna E. Molinar. She was raised in the New York and New Jersey areas and was a 1956 graduate of Dickinson High School in Jersey City. She later attended Douglass College in New Brunswick, NJ. She enjoyed her life working as a secretary in the big city, (wasn’t called “The Big Apple” then), before her marriage when she left the hustle and bustle of city life and became a countrified wife, mother, and homemaker. Later, after becoming a single mom, she began a second career in the civil service as a secretary for the Command Chaplain’s Office at Fort Leavenworth, KS; and loved every minute of it. Joy loved living in the country and was a huge animal lover, at one time raised geese, horses, and a pet pig named Petunia. She adopted cats and dogs from the Ft. Leavenworth Veterinary office. Joy enjoyed many hobbies including: playing organ and piano, reading, and loved theater and opera. She also was of the Catholic Faith and spent many weekends as a caregiver for the elderly. Joy was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Harriet McMechen, Jane Duzich, Jean Quinn, and Joan McGovern. She is survived by her sons Hoy Thompson III of Oakland, CA, James Thompson of Camden Point, MO, and Matthew Thompson of Allen, KS; 2 granddaughters, Meghan Thompson of Allen, and Courtney Thompson of Americus, KS; and several nieces and extended family and friends. Memorial contributions can be made in Joy’s memory to Kitty Cat Connection.
