Obituary for Carolyn Sue Madorie (Madorie)

Carolyn Sue Madorie, Platte City, passed away at her home on April 16, 2022. She was born on September 20, 1947, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Edward Olds Madorie and Naomi Marie Orr. Carolyn was married in 1963 to Crestel Carpenter, in 1967 to Michael Tait, in 1969 to Donald Pierce and in 1971 to Albert Purtle. Carolyn then formed a lifelong, loving companionship with James Hood. Carolyn enjoyed a long and varied work life. She started out working alongside her mother at Katz Drug, which she spoke of often and with great fondness. She went on to work for the Internal Revenue Service, the Country Place Saloon in Platte City as a bartender, Commerce Bank, Fleming, Electronic Data Systems. She also spent time volunteering as a Kansas City Zoo Docent in her earlier years. Carolyn retired from EDS in 2000. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her stepfather, Quinten Robert Orr and companion, James Hood. She is survived by her children, Monte E Carpenter and Janet, Kansas City; Michelle L Thompsin, Platte City; Matthew and Lisa Purtle, Olathe, KS, and her sister, Madeline (DeeGee) and Ron Gartlan, Omaha, NE. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one niece and two nephews. Carolyn loved and cherished her family, was passionate about protecting the earth and always had a warm and funny tale to tell. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
