Obituary for Shirley Lee Hoog (Hull)

Shirley Lee (Hull) Hoog was born in Baldwin City, Kansas in 1943. After graduating from high school in Baldwin, she attended business school in Topeka, Kansas. She worked for “Ma” Bell Telephone in Topeka where she met Robert Hoog while he was serving in the Air Force. They married June 3, 1967. She followed him to Platte City, Missouri where they started a family in 1969. Bob built them a house in Parkville, Missouri and they added to their family with a second child in 1971. Shirley stopped working outside the home to care for her family full time. In 1979 Bob built them a new house in Weston, Missouri, and Shirley cared for the home and the family full time until her youngest approached graduation from high school. She worked as a seamstress, and in data entry and administrative support until she retired from the International Association of Administrative Professionals. Bob and Shirley were members of Holy Trinity Parish in Weston. In 2003, Shirley unexpectedly lost Bob, but she continued to live in and care for the Weston home until 2013 when she moved to Lakeview Village retirement community in Lenexa, Kansas. She continued to be active volunteering and working in the Lakeview What Not Shop and dining room as long as her health allowed. She enjoyed many friends and activities around the campus, and everyone enjoyed her big smiles, red hair, unique laugh, and spunky sense of humor. Shirley enjoyed sewing and crafting and was a skilled seamstress. She enjoyed her grand children and helping any one in any way she could. She was most happy being useful and busy and was not easily tired. She had a stubborn streak a mile long which helped her overcome many obstacles and hardships throughout life. She is survived by her daughter, Sara (Hoog) Mills and her husband, Patrick; her son, Reggie Hoog and his wife, Nunzia; as well as her grandchildren: Annie Hoog, Katie Mills, Stella Hoog, and Hannah Mills. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Hull. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry (Bud) Hull; Sarah (Hrenchir) Hull; stepmother, Mildred Hull, as well as her husband, Robert Hoog. A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 13, 2022, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Weston; followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral mass. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Parish (407 Cherry St, Weston, MO 64079- in memory of Shirley Hoog) or the What Not Shop (Lakeview Village Foundation at 9100 Park St., Lenexa, KS 66215.
