Obituary for Gary Lee Toy

Gary Lee Toy, 81, of Platte City, Missouri, passed away Friday, March 17th, 2023 at the NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, Missouri. Gary was born in Kansas City, Missouri on June 1st, 1941 to Calvin and Martha Toy. He grew up with his mother and step father in Kansas City and spent his summers with his father in Weston. He joined the Christian faith during childhood and was a member of many churches throughout his life including the KC Baptist Temple, Christian Assembly Church of Weston and the First Baptist Church of Platte City. He was a graduate of Westport High School and was well known for his business in residential contracting where he worked in all aspects of construction including framing and finishing carpentry, concrete work, electrical, plumbing and more. Gary had an independent spirit and a creative mind. He was an artist, meticulous in his work, and this made him a master of his trade. Gary married his first wife, Rosemary, on May 20, 1959 and they shared two children together, daughter, Tish and son, Rick. He later married his darling Sharon in 1978 and became a step father to her daughter Kristin and son Curtis. Gary loved spending time on the golf course, playing a game of chess, reading Consumer Reports, or sipping an afternoon cocktail on the deck. He was an amazing dancer and could often be found in Mexico swinging Sharon around on the dance floor. They loved Mexico and traveled there yearly, often for weeks at a time, alone or with their good friends. They developed a passion for collecting Mexican art and Gary practiced his photography skills chasing sunsets by the shore. Gary loved football and thoroughly enjoyed fantasy football, being a member of the Weston and Platte City leagues. He was also a past member of the Weston Jaycees and shared many good friendships in his community. Gary loved dogs and putting together puzzles, yellow tulips and key lime pie. He was a forward thinker and planned ahead while never sacrificing living in the moment. He and Sharon loved the family they created together and “making memories” was their motto in life. He lovingly spoke of those memories to his final days and while we know they are now reunited, he will be missed by all who knew him. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sharon. He is survived by his children Tish Wood, Rick Toy, Kristin Bramble, and Curtis Cooper; grandchildren Paxton Seyal, Schafer Wood, Payton Toy, Clayton Bramble, Shailee Bramble, Jack Cooper, and Olivia Cooper; and his great grandchildren Emilia Seyal, Charli Seyal, Adelyn Wood, Zander Bramble, Alyza Bramble, and Hunter Bramble. A visitation will be held 10-11:00 am, Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Platte City, Missouri followed by and 11:00 am funeral service. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. Memorial contributions can be given to NorthCare Hospice.
