James Henry Rampton
James H. Rampton, 78, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Hillview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Platte City, MO. Services will be held Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Platte City, MO. Family will receive friends 9:30am to 10:30am, Memorial Service 10:30am at the Church, Military Honors & graveside service 12:30pm, Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. James was born July 9, 1937 in Corvallis, Oregon to Henry Hardy Rampton and Dorothea Wilhelmine Katherine (Henningsen) Rampton. James was a graduate of Oregon State University with a B.S. and Master’s Degree in Food Science; later earning a PhD from Michigan State University. James served his country in the U.S. Army, working in food supply for the Natick Lab; and during the Vietnam Conflict, he was in charge of non-perishable foods. In following years, he worked as a research chemist, and later for the U.S.D.A., in charge of U.S. grain moisture meters. James married Jackie Jo Dick on March 15, 1963 in Corvallis, Oregon. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Platte City, MO. Over the years, James lived in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Massachusetts, before moving to Platte City in 1984. Among his many interests, James enjoyed raising an orchard with a variety of trees he enjoyed playing his harmonica for his children. He was preceded in death by: his parents; a son Benjamin Rampton; and a sister Alice Rampton. James is survived by: his wife Jackie, of the home; 5 sons Richard (Carol), of Island Lake, IL, Samuel (Lili) of Portland, OR, John (J) of Portland, Daniel of KS, and Rex (Sara) Rampton of St. Louis, MO; 1 daughter Beth (Charles) Tilton of NJ; 2 brothers Wesley (Marie) Rampton, and Mark (Alice) Rampton; and 2 sisters Jean (Charles) Nelson, and Christine Low; 19 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
