Mizella Pearson, 87, of Weston, MO, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Linden Woods Village in Gladstone, MO. Mizella was born on April 20, 1933 in Maitland, MO to John Clifford “J.C.” and Helen Mizella (Austin) Lemar. She was a 1951 graduate of the Mound City High School; and a 1955 graduate of Northwest MO State University. It was there that Mizella met her future husband Norman Grant Pearson, a fellow tuba player in the marching band; and the couple were married June 6, 1954 in Maitland. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Weston and served as a Sunday school teacher. Mizella was well known in the Weston community through her work as a high school Business Education teacher at West Platte R-II for nearly 20 years, and later her work for the Weston Development Company as well. She was an avid sports fan of the Northwest MO Bearcats, the K.C. Chiefs, and the K.C. Royals. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Norman; daughter Suzanne Koonce; brothers Jimmie Nelson Lemar and Curtis Gerald Lemar; and her grandson Cameron Austin Leeds. Mizella is survived by son James Curtis Pearson of Maryville, MO; daughter Janet Kaye (Craig) Leeds of K.C., MO; son-in-law Marton Koonce; grandchildren David J. (Jodi) Griffin, Michele L. Koonce, and Alexandra Leeds; great granddaughter Camden Patrice Griffin; brother in law James W. Pearson; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Graceland Cemetery in Weston. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The United Methodist Church of Weston.
